The new law, which takes effect Aug. 28, makes it a misdemeanor crime for lottery officials and contractors to publicly release the names, addresses or other identifying information about winners. Violations are punishable by up to a year in jail and a fine of as much as $2,000.  (read more)

For those who cannot understand why anyone would make this a crime, just consider the fact that those who win a lottery of any sizable worth are likely to become the target of criminals looking to bilk them of their new found fortune, or at least bug them in order to receive a small portion of it. –John Larkin, ESC Senior  Partner
